New Guidelines for Drainage Infrastructure
Through Ministerial Resolution 126-2021-Vivienda, the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS) modified the name, location and content of Technical Standard OS.060 Urban Storm Drainage, which became Technical Standard CE.040 Storm Drainage for Building Regulations. With this change, the guidelines and minimum requirements for the design and construction of storm drainage infrastructure have been established, which will allow the evacuation of rainwater in order to avoid flooding and prevent the deterioration of infrastructure and buildings. It also seeks to avoid the generation of environmental contamination. This standard establishes the technical characteristics of the basic components of a storm drainage infrastructure, and incorporates complementary structures as components used to retain, infiltrate, filter or pump rainwater, as technical alternatives that contribute to prevent flooding. This technical standard is mandatory at the national level for the three levels of government, as well as for institutions, companies and professionals in charge of the design and construction of storm drainage infrastructure. It should be noted that storm drainage projects that, upon the entry into force of this technical standard, have a technical file approved within the framework of the National System of Multiannual Programming and Investment Management and/or are in process, are governed until their completion by Technical Standard OS.060.
