BIM Methodology in Public Infrastructure Works
The Ministry of Economy and Finance has been encouraging the implementation of the "BIM Plan" within the public sector, which aims at the use of the Building Information Modeling methodology currently used by the private sector and which involves the use of different applications when developing a construction project, allowing the exchange of information in real time.
The Ministry, through the "BIM Plan", aims to achieve the progressive use of this technology in public investments by 2030. This will result in better control over how infrastructure is designed, contracted, built, and, above all, how it is operated and maintained. In general, a better control of public works, thus preventing any form of corruption.
As part of this plan, the BIM Alliance has just been launched, an initiative between companies and entities to promote the use of this innovative technology. Ten entities are participating, among them the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (CAPECO), the Peruvian Association of Architects, the University of Lima, five representatives of construction software and some BIM consulting firms.
