Why did private investment increase by 9.4% in the last quarter of 2020?
Despite the closure of numerous businesses due to the quarantine and the gradual reactivation of certain activities, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) reported that private investment rebounded by 9.4% in the fourth quarter of 2020.
The data collected is supported by greater investment in non-mining sectors (18.7%) thanks to the recovery of investor expectations about local and global activity, favored by the news about the development of a vaccine against COVID-19 .
However, the positive result described a priori contrasts significantly with the contraction in mining investment (29.7%) in said period. In comparative terms, in the fourth quarter of 2020 investment in the mining sector reached a lower amount by US $ 647 million than that registered in the fourth quarter of last year.
